10 days Bhairav Kund Trek, Grade: Moderate
The
Bhairav Kund area northeast of Kathmandu offers the proximity to the
Himalayan Mountains then any other area in Nepal yet this is a remote
and unfrequented region. The
abrupt variation in altitude found here is astonishing from the narrow
trails. From Bhairav Kund there are no intervening ranges to spoil the
views of Himalayan range of Jugal Himal in which peaks include Dorje
Lakpa (6966), Madiya (6257M) and Phurbi Ghhyachu (6637m). The mixes of
mountain culture along the views on the route of the trek are superb.
The highlight of the trek is the Bhairav Kund, a holy lake situated at
(4200m), the dominating skyline and the life style of nomadic people
unchanged by time. The
trekking group has to be self-contained, as there are no lodges/tea
houses. Due to this incredible latitudinal range and an unusual
geographical and climatic mix, walking this area is a naturalist's
dream.
