Kanchenjunga Trek

TRIP INTRODUCTION

Known to the world as the third highest mountains among the trekkers Kanchenjunga  trek has its uncommon beauty that every trekkers and climber want to explore. With the elevation of 8586 m  it used to  be known as the tallest mountain at 1852 and later with the proper study and search later came to be known as the third in 1856.

We will not know about it specialaity or even about its nature but to get to know it we need to make a moves to try and investigate on this Kanchenjunga Trek. Actually consisting of seven submit but is still known as Kang-chen-zod-nga”, meaning “Five treasure of Snow.

May be people from around the world sees it as only the mass of mountain which needed  to be climbed but to the people living near to this area has got its religions belief and is worshipped by the people living in Sikkim and Darjeeling. Another fact about the Kanchenjunga trek is to be careful with the avalanches that Kanchenjunga throws down said to be the largest anywhere! The major ethnic group inhabiting the Kanchenjunga region is the Limbus along with Rais have earned respect as fearless infantry men-the “Gurkhas”. Your journey to this remote area begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar in the east of Nepal, followed by a drive to Basantapur (2220 m,) from where you head north to the villages of Chauki (2700 m), Gorja Gaon (2000 m), Amjilasa (2490 m), Ghunsa (3340 m), Khambachen (4040 m) and Lhonak (4790 m) to Pangpema (5140 m.) which also serves as the Base Camp for expeditions attempting the North Face of Kanchenjunga and the culmination of the first part of the trek.

You then retrace your steps to the village of Ghunsa and back to Taplejung or Tumlingtar for your flight back or you can head east over the Lapsang La (5110 m.) to Tseram and Ramze and then to the Yalung Glacier (4800 m.) towards the south which completes the second part of your journey. From here you start on your return journey heading south through the villages of Torontan, Yamphudin, Mamankhe and Keswa to Taplejung from where you will board and aircraft for Biratnagar and then fly out to Kathmandu.

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu International Airport and transfer to hotel.
 Day 02: Free day in Kathmandu to make the final preparations for your trek or do some exploring on your own.
 Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Hille via Dhankuta.
 Day 04: Trek from Hille to Mangmaya (1649m)
 Day 05: Trek from Mangmaya to Khare (2490m)
 Day 06: Trek from Khare to Chainpur (1600m). From Khare the trail gradually ascends to chainpur.
 Day 07: Trek from Chainpur to Nundhaki (2340m)
 Day 08: Trek from Nundhaki to Milke Dhanda (3500m)
 Day 09: Trek from Milke Dhanda to Dhoban
 Day 10: Trek from Dhoban to Thuma
 Day 11: Trek from Thuma to Chirwa
 Day 12: Trek from Chirwa to Tortang
 Day 13: Trek from Tortang to Walungchung Gola
 Day 14: Rest at Walangchung Gola
 Day 15: Walungchung (3,200m) in Tamur valley with Kangbachenga (4038) in Ghunsa valley are the highest settlements in the area. The latter was an important trading centre between the towns of Darjeeling and Tipta La in Tibet.
 Day 16: Trek from Walangchung Gola to Nango Khola
 Day 17: Croos Nango La (4820m) and trek to Gunsa (3340m). You explore the upper reach of Tamur and cross Nangola (4802m) to reach Gunsa.
 Day 18: Rest at Ghunsa
 Day 19: Trek from Ghunsa to Kambachen (4124m.)
 Day 20: Trek from Kambachen to Lhonak (4780m.)
 Day 21: Trek from Lhonak to North Base-camp .
 Day 22: Rest at North Base Camp (4940m)
 Day 23: Trek from North Base Camp to Ghunsa (3340m)
 Day 24: Trek from Ghunsa to Amjillassa
 Day 25: Trek from Amjillassa to Chirwa
 Day 26: Trek from Chirwa to Pathibhara. From Chirwa ascend the steep trail to Pathivara (3700m).
 Day 27: Trek from Pathibhara to Taplejung (1798m)
 Day 28: Drive or Fly from Taplejung to Ilam. You stay overnight in Ilam
 Day 29: Drive from Ilam to Kathmandu via Biratnagar (174km).
 Day 30: Free day in Kathmandu for souvenir shopping & independent activiries
 Day 31: Send off to airport, departure from Kathmandu.

Cost Includes:
27 days trekking, 04 night accommodation in Kathmandu on twin sharing in a 3 star hotel on B&B plan, all meals 3 times a day i.e. breakfast, lunch & dinner prepared cook, Accommodation in teahouses/lodge entire the trekking and camping /tented during the trekking, All staff tent, member tent, kitchen tent, dining tent, toilet tent, shower tent with shower equipment, table and chairs, hot water bag for bed and Pillow and – cooking utensils for trekking, A english speaking professional trekking guide license holder, porters ( 1 porter carries the luggage up to 25 kgs of 2 participants during the trek), insurance for the Nepalese staff, Entry Permit for National Park Permits fee, Kanchanjunga Permit per person, all necessary transportation/arrival & departure by private vehicles.

Expenses of personal nature, personal gears, hard/soft drinks, personal medication, rescue in case of emergency, flights ticket i.e. Biratnagar/ Kathmandu & Tipping (tips).
