The craze to ride the bike to different part of the world has been growing in numbers and the ride to Everest base camp is obviously a dream which every rider has in their bucket list of Travel. Same was for our team till 2001. In 1998 we opened Parikrma Treks and by 2000 we were able to gather 10 riders who were eager to make a ride from Nepal to Tibet. Without any knowledge of roads and the challenge that is waiting for us we hop on our Royal Enfield 500 cc Standard model took the best chance to explore this beautiful path of riding Himalayan motorbike tours to Everest Base Camp. The dream which we riders has started to dream has now become the reality for the ride to the top of the world with the most thrilling and most challenging roads ways and altitude put in from of us directly by god to make us feel like we are in heaven.
The value of the tears of joy, happiness, falls, attack from yaks , beauty and the difficulty to get along with the road with the rise in altitude experience was worth a million for all 10 of us. Then we riders vows with tears in our eyes and the smile in our face to make it the best destination. Standing as pioneer of Himalayan motorbike tours our job now was to make it known, so we started to offer a tour plan for the riders, club, tour operators and agencies with the proper guidance for this Himalayan Motorcycle Adventure.
Almost after these 2 decades of long journey our riders are happy to see 100 % success and hope that all the riders has same experience like we did though road condition has drastically changed. Our teams are still focused of this Everest Base camp motorbike tour and will still take you to this ride as our very first day and let you experience it as same as us. Some friends and I hit a big birthday this year and decided to have an adventure to celebrate. An adventure it certainly was. After some research we decided upon Parikrama owned and run by Kumar Basnett. We were a bit nervous dealing with an unknown company in Nepal only by email but we need not have worried. I contacted some previous customers who had left reviews on Trip Advisor and they all gave glowing accounts. All they said about his honesty, helpfulness and willingness to provide the best possible service was correct. During the run up to our departure the rules changed regarding obtaining the group visa to enter Tibet so we were forced to spend longer in Kathmandu that we originally wanted to but Kumars lovely daughter, Sushi, took us on some sightseeing trips and the hotel was good. Kumar even arranged for one of our group to go riding in Kathmandu through the crazy traffic. The motorcycling in Tibet was fabulous. The guide, mechanics and truck driver were terrific and could not do too much to help us. They dealt with changing circumstances regarding road closures, compliance with Chinese traffic rules and regulations etc easily. The scenery was magnificent, the roads varied from good tarmac to pot holed tracks under construction and multi-switchback high altitude passes. The accommodation provided everywhere we stayed was the best available but obviously not 5 star luxury. The toilets along the route were ‘interesting’. The Royal Enfield bikes provided were comfortable enough, coped with the terrain well and were easy to fix. They had no great acceleration so overtakes uphill were a challenge but it was all really good fun. Kumars English is a little difficult to understand sometimes but his daughters is really good. As a lady rider I was initially concerned that the trip would be beyond my abilities but Kumar assured me that if I was worried about any section one of the mechanics would ride my bike for me while I hopped in the truck. As it was this was not necessary and I did the whole trip without incident. Best of all we stayed as close as we could to EBC and saw the sun rise over Everest without a cloud in sight. A truly fantastic trip. If you want a holiday this is not for you. If you want an adventure on motorcycles then contact Kumar and Parikrama.
